Excellent article on this femme fatale. She was a hard on. The circus at her trials was, I think, fairly typical for the time period.

Fred Sinclair

It wsasn't a stupid bar room fight. Henry murdered my uncle Arthur Sinclair, a San Antonio policeman, in a bar room on the orders of a San Antonio gambler, who also had another of my uncles killed. My rich uncle then paid $5000 to have Henry killed when he was paroled from prison. He was out one day when the hit man got him. Shot him the same number of times my uncle got hit. You should get things right.

Jinxy McDeath

Fred Sinclair, your family sounds like they were all bad cops, in with the wrong people and died the way they lived. Fabulous that you are bragging about one more sleazy relative killing someone. Let's hope the Sinclair gene pool ends with you.

It is an excellent article. It's just a pity that people go bad for whatever reason. I'm sorry for the innocent lives destroyed, but I also am sorry for Toni and Cowboy. But then, evil had its way with them. Tragic all around.

Taylor

This is really a heart braking story. I really think that they should not have killed her because they are taking her out of the world, and no one has the right to take anyones life.Just like she took Joseph p calloway's life away. This is horrible.

Taylor

OMG thats sad

Robin E. Worley

My Mother took a Photo just like the one at the end of the article, I have the original. Zina Kieth Fowle was a reporter for the Beaumont Hearld and recieved the AP Photo of the year. I have the origial very much the same excepted cropped and both the the collared Man in Black and Toni Jo are smiling. My Mother had to sit with the witnesses during the exacution to be able to take the photo. She said she covered her eyes and put her head in her lap.

laura

Wow, Robin, that's quite the story.... your mother sounds like a fascinating woman who was ahead of her time.

WALTER BRAUTIGAN

MY NAME IS WALTER BRAUTIGAN OF POMPTON LAKES NEW JERSEY. MR. CALLOWAY (THE MURDER VICTIM) WAS THE UNCLE OF MY MOTHER DORIS PEARL BRAUTIGAN NEE CRAIN. MR CALLOWAYS WIFE WAS MY GRANDFATHERS SISTER NAMED MAUDE OR PEARL CALLOWAY NEE CRAIN. I DONT THINK MY MOTHER EVER MET MR. CALLOWAY AS THEY WERE IN THE DEEP SOUTH AND MY MOTHER WAS RAISED IN THE AREA OF HACKENSACK, NJ. TRAVEL WAS QUITE DIFFERENT THEN AS YOU ARE QUITE AWARE. MY MOTHER IS AGE 80. WHILE GROWING UP I HAD HEARD OF THE STORY BUT NEVER ANY DETAILS. ON 2/14/10 THE NY DAILY NEWS FEATURED A 1 PAGE ARTICLE IN THEIR JUSTICE STORY FEATURE WHICH IS IN EVERY SUNDAY EDITION. WHILE READING THE STORY IT DAWNED UPON ME THAT THIS IS THE STORY ABOUT MY GREAT UNCLE WHO WAS THE VICTIM. I GOT MORE DETAILS FROM MY MOTHER WHO CONFIRMED EVERYTHING EXCEPT 1 THING THAT WAS MISSING WAS THE FACT THAT MR. CALLOWAY WAS ALSO TORTURED BY EITHER OR BOTH OF THEM BEFORE HIS MURDER. THE PAIN SUFFERED BY THE WIDOW AND DAUGHTER WAS BAD. THE DAUGHTER (MY MOTHERS COUSIN) WHOSE NAME CAN'T BE RECALLED LIVED INTO HER 50'S AND HAD CHILDREN. TO THE ACLU AND AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL TODAY YOU ARE THERE FOR PEOPLE LIKE MS HENRY AND HER ACCOMPLICE, NOBODY WAS THERE FOR MY RELATIVES AND SUCH IS THE CASE TODAY. I AM A 15 YEAR VETERAN IN CORRECTIONS, CURRENTLY A SERGEANT IN A COUNTY FACILITY. I SEE MURDERERS EVERYDAY I WORK. THEY HAVE NO REGRETS ABOUT WHAT THEY HAVE DONE, ONLY ABOUT GETTING CAUGHT. THEY WILL KILL AGAIN IF GIVEN THE CHANCE, ESPECIALLY ME.

I am a law enforcement officer living Lake Charles, where Toni was tried and executed. I have walked her path to the death chair in the courthouse probably a thousand times. I go to her grave and try to keep it clean. This case is as raw today as it was in 1943. I don't understand her,but you can hate the sin and still love the sinner. Dave

Natasha Blankenship

Hi my name is Natasha Blankenship but everybody calls me tasha. I am really sorry to hear about your great uncle being the one who was shot during this time. I just heard about the story on the television. It must be kind of freaky to work in the same place where she was tried and put to death. I do have a question for dave though. Is there anything weird that happens there?

Suzanne McQuiston

To David Vandever - Toni Jo was my great-aunt. I appreciate the compassion and understanding you show and am wondering if you may have more information about the history of the case or additional family members of Toni Jo.
